Safecontractor status for local facilities management firm

Office interiors specialists Beacons Business Interiors (Bbi) has announced that it has received Safecontractor accreditation.

Safecontractor is the industry accreditation that assesses a contractor’s health and safety policies and documentation, ensuring that it is in-line with the Safe Contractor Charter Standards.

In applying for the Safecontractor standard, Bbi had to go through a rigorous process in which all its health and safety policies, organisational structure, training and communications with its staff were scrutinised. As a result Bbi, has been awarded this standard across all its disciplines including mechanical design, construction and management.

Jeff Lee, group compliance officer for Bbi, said:

"Safecontractor is a great milestone for us. Clients now have a legal obligation to assess the competency of any contractor they use and by having the Safecontractor status makes this whole process easier for our clients."

Safecontractor is the latest accreditation for Bbi who has a dedicated compliance department and has already received the industry accreditation in the management construction safety course from the Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH).

Andy Graham, group chairman of Bbi, explained:

"Being able to say that we have gained Safecontractor status is a great achievement and demonstrates our continued commitment towards health and safety. Health and safety is an integral part of the ethos of Bbi. Unlike many other facilities support suppliers we have a dedicated compliance department to ensure we are complying with regulatory requirements and to be able to claim that we are now Safecontractor accredited puts us another step ahead. By encouraging and facilitating good practices and expertise, we aim to promote awareness of health and safety matters in the workplace and ensure that high standards are achieved and maintained."

Bbi has offices in Brecon, Dewsbury and Gloucester and provides facilities support to more than 500 clients across the UK including several blue chip companies like Lloyds TSB and Zurich Financial Services, government organisations such as the Office for National Statistics and international companies such as Capita, Atkins and Computershare.
