The CODA plc Group is a leading provider of IT software and services to blue chip and government organisations worldwide.
The Group was founded in the UK in 1980 and has three divisions within the business: the CODA Division, which sells CODA Financial Intelligence solutions to private and public sector bodies worldwide; the SciSys Division, which provides IT services, bespoke software and applications management to large corporations and government organisations; and Business Collaborator, which sells knowledge collaboration solutions, primarily in the UK.

BBI won the design & build contract to refurbish CODA's four-storey building in Harrogate. Our brief was to redesign the space to provide a customer facing and client training facility for CODA plc in the North as well as provide office accommodation for 280 people.

Mechanical & Electrical Design
BBI designed and then project managed an increase in the mains electrical capacity into the building from 190kVA to 280kVA. This enabled greater occupation, increased IT provision and a more comfortable environment for CODA's employees and clients by installing a new 3-pipe VRV air-conditioning system.
The facility in Harrogate is the hub of I.T communications for many of its satellite offices abroad. For that reason BBI also designed and installed an Un-interruptible Power Supply (UPS) capable of giving a continuous power supply to all I.T. elements within the building, supported by a generator capable of running the entire building.
Giving the Space a "Lift"
To increase office space we proposed an innovative design solution that relocated the Server room into the third floor roof void. To enable us to do this we designed and installed a new platform lift that traveled from the ground floor delivery area to the 3rd floor server room. Having undertaken a detailed structural survey, we managed to cut through the various floor slabs and install the lift shaft whilst working within an operational office in a noise sensitive environment.
Conferencing Facilities
The new conference facility has recently been completed and provides an exclusive hospitality and training environment comprising state of the art technology.
AIS Award ...
AIS Contractors Gold Award 2007
Bbi submitted this project to be independently scrutinised and externally judged as part of the prestigious AIS awards. Competition was fierce but Bbi's contract went on to win the Gold Award in the 2007 AIS Contractors awards presented at the Dorchester Hotel in London.
On presenting the award, Robert Fry - European Managing Director of Swanke Hayden Connell Architects - in his role as Guest Judge, commented:"With a construction stage of only eight weeks, this vibrant training suite project demonstrated an exceptional level of service and client engagement to achieve a very high standard of fit-out. The design and build contract utilised new design talent from the outset and the effort put in to achieve the successful co-ordination of materials, furniture and fittings is exemplary."
