The Brief

This project involved the complete strip out (to core) of two large floors, each floor comprising four 'wings'.

Internal construction comprised:

  • new electrical wiring
  • new mechanical ductwork
  • new perimeter mounted Versatemp units
  • new ceilings
  • carpeting
  • partitioning
  • toilets

Variations to the project included the design and installation of a new Air Handling Unit.

Project Delivery

The project was split into two phases - one phase for each floor with each phase taking twenty weeks.

Asbestos removal and demolitions took a fortnight within each phase with a continual sequence of works carrying on from that.

Mechanical and Electrical installations were completed on schedule, despite the Versatemp Units being delayed due to the Tsunami of Boxing Day 2004.

Internal construction elements were based on the ONS Style Guide (an organisational standards document) that BBI had designed on behalf of the ONS previously.
