Terminal 2 – Airside M&E upgrade

The client

Birmingham Internationall Airport is one of the fastest growing regional airports in the UK with direct international routes across the globe. It has 150 supply companies on site with a wider employee community of nearly 7,000. It carries 10 million passengers per year, with plans to double in size by 2020.

The design brief

Terminal 2 – Refurbishment and upgrade to Air Handling Units The exisiting Air Handling Units required refurbishing, but their location on the roof of terminal 2 over looking the main runway required a variety of complex tasks as this work was both Airside with difficult access to crane equipment onto the roof.

Project delivery

Bbi have worked at the airport for the last five years, on both Airside and Landside projects, with Bbi staff being security cleared for all areas.

Various schemes have been completed in the the terminal buildings and in the wider environment around the airport. Building works in the departures area for the Immigrations office to Mechanical fancoil replacments on the roof of Terminal 2.

Due to these requiremets a new heating, cooling and ventilation system was needed for the comfort of the occupants. The overall project was delivered on time and under budget to very high standard which has helped the airport deal with the ever growing demand of more passengers.
