Bristol Airport

Bristol Airport Refurbishment

Bristol Airport, Bristol

Project value

£300k | Time scale: Four months

The client

Bristol International Airport deal with around 5 Million passengers a year and are rapidly expanding year on year and have plans to invest over £100 Million pounds over the next 5 years to enable passenger numbers to grow further.

The design brief

The Old Terminal Building was originally built in the 1950's and since then has had large sections added to the building to deal with passenger growth. In the 1990's a new terminal building was built allowing the old terminal building to be used for staff and airline companies. The building has a very distinctive 50's style and the project was to revitalise the common area and reception to give a modern feel.

Project delivery

It was decided that the area needed to have an aircraft theme throughout and to achieve this Bbi helped design and build bespoke second hand aircraft parts such as airplane wings suspended from the atrium roof with integrated spot lights. An engine intake cowl from a Boeing 737 Jet turned into a reception desk and seating. Fuselage sections from a 737 used as seating and aircraft wheels turned into coffee tables.

Josh Hodder, project coordinator at Bristol Airport, said: “Bbi’s response to our brief perfectly communicated our vision and the team overcame any obstacles with ease. The installation process was carefully managed and the final result is fantastic, creating just the kind of ‘wow factor’ we were looking for.
