Cardiff Airport

Cardiff Airport Security Zone Refurbishment

Project value

£700,000 | Four months

The client

Cardiff Airport has recently changed ownership and is now owned by the Welsh Assembly Government. Since the change the airport has put plans in place to drastically overhaul all the customer facing areas throughout the airport to give the passenger a better experience. They currently fly around 1 million passengers per year but plans are in place to double that over the next 5 years

Project delivery

Initially the project was to refurbish and expand the current Security Search Area to enable the passenger number to grow.

As the project went on it was decided to refurbish other customer facing areas in the security area such as the public bar, DDA toilets and staff areas. We also manufactured a bespoke customer smoking shelter outside the "airside" bar which halted the flow of passengers leaving the building through security for a cigarette. We also refurbished a large office on the second floor to allow critical members of staff to work together in a large open plan area rather than individual offices in the Admin Building. The contract increased in size from the original value of £300k to £700k
