The design brief

The site consists of a separate block with the main school to the rear and side elevation. The site has a mix of single and two storey buildings with a flat roof construction and is typical clasp type construction. The site is part of a detached building and was formerly used as a Youth Centre. The area being refurbished consisted of existing classrooms and hall.

Project delivery

The refurbishment of part of the Youth Centre was completed during the school term and so protection to staff and pupils was utmost in our mind. Two classrooms within the Youth Centre were being refurbished and sub divided to be converted to make into a Toilet for the children, along with a food preparation kitchen and office for the staff.

The existing hall was redecorated along with alterations to the existing fencing and provision of new drainage for the toilets. The result was a safe environment for the children to play and learn with the areas being designed so the children could be monitored by the staff easily. Low height cubicle doors, dividing panels and vanity units with colourful screen printed doors in robust Solid Grade Laminate were used. The project was completed on time along with additional extras due partly to the fact that a working site foreman was kept on the project for its duration.
