Project value

£2,600,000 | Time scale: 10 months

The client

Sterilin Limited manufactures and supplies a wide range of premium quality, disposable plastic products for the life sciences market.

The design brief

To convert an empty warehouse into a full processing plant to meet the client’s manufacturing requirements, helping it to increase output while reducing unnecessary costs.

Project delivery

Bbi had to carry out substantial building works to the 13,500 sq m warehouse, including considerable repairs to the roof and concrete flooring, prior to any manufacturing installations taking place. The internal walls were built to the client’s specifications using 100mm Eurobond insulated panels with a power coated finish, to provide the high levels of insulation required. In addition, a full sprinkler system was fitted for the entire building, complete with water tank and pump house. Four class-seven clean rooms, including full filtration systems, were designed and built from the ground up, and Bbi also fitted a 400kw process cooling system ready for the installation of injection moulding machines. In addition to the manufacturing works, Bbi was also tasked with fitting out a commercial kitchen and canteen for 100 covers, plus open plan office space and management area for 90 people on the first floor. Simon Jones of Bbi said: “Given the nature of the facility we were building, the client’s brief had to be completed to the letter. It was a challenging project and a good example of delivering a mixed-use facility.”
